The move is on and it’s time to pack. This is a great time to create your home inventory. Add boxes by room, mark them your way, from a sharpie scribble to bar coded labels, or a mix of both. As you add items, record whatever level of detail you want, from a title to a complete profile including value and pictures. Using commercial movers? Take pictures of items and boxes to record their pre-move condition in the event anything is damaged in the process. Add a destination to each box to simplify the unloading effort.



If this is a work related move, document your expenses and take pictures of the receipts to simplify the reimbursement process or for tax purposes.



Unloading is hectic and misplacing boxes is common. Use the destination you added when packing to easily quarterback where boxes should be placed. Those critical boxes won’t end up in storage when you need them most! Have damaged items? The before and after pictures really help in making your claim.
